Welcome 2018

I am terribly late I know! I usually have such posts ready well in advance and I can't even wait for the new years eve to post it. But, this year end I was occupied with so many things that I couldn't complete this post... But, here I am, better late than never!

2017 - What an incredible year! I was looking at my memories from the year and was surprised to see all that happened. I took a life-changing decision to move from Malaysia, my home of 9 years, to live down under in Australia! Leaving a secure and comfortable life to build a new life from scratch is both intimidating and exciting and that is how my 2017 was! During the decision-making process, some days I felt absolutely ready and some days my heart sank at the thought of everything I was leaving behind. It was not an easy decision but an important one which makes 2017 an unforgettable year for both of us - to be written with gold in our history!

I never do elaborate new year goals. I introspect and jot down things that I learned. In 2017, I learned that new beginnings are exciting and are usually celebrated as a positive thing whereas 'ending' has a negative connotation and brings with it sadness. I learned that an end is nothing but another name of 'beginning'. Some endings are beyond our control; some are unfortunate and sad but that does not mean that they leave no space for a beginning. Growth only happens when we make room for change and when we are ready to end a thing to start another. Some endings are needed for our sanity and our peace and sometimes for someone else's peace. Sometimes we end things to grow, to challenge ourselves, to make room for something better. To fly away we need to end our caged life no matter how much the cage feels familiar and safe. After a long time, I am living in a country with four seasons and every season that ends reinforces this very concept. I love when trees shed yellow leaves, I love them when they turn green in spring and then some bear fruits in the scorching summer. Could there be a more beautiful example?

My resolution this year is to embrace endings and to learn that not all locked doors are bad news. In fact when something ends.. it is just a sign of a beautiful beginning.

And as always, I found these beautiful lines that convey my thoughts perfectly.

“Endings are abstruse, mystic and unreal. They are but depleted beginnings purposed to be

substituted with newer ones. A transition of outlook and time, similar to our differing moods before

and after slumber. Before the act, we witness an exhaustion, a sulkiness but on gaining

consciousness, we’re rejuvenated and good humored. The wakefulness is the new beginning whereas

the tension the disturbance we perceive each night is the weariness of the beginnings, of each day. So

there never really is an end, all that there are are beginnings. Beginnings which are promising, which

offer hope, which have a new leash on life, which neither denounces nor belittle rather soothe and

console by reconstructing the broken pieces of yesterday, mending them and reinforcing them with

courage and beauty like never before.”

Love these lines. New beginings only can happen when some thing ends. We should embrace the new things happening with degnity as Allah's plan has brought these before us and our positive attitude pleases Allah.
