Heart Talk: What will you be when you grow up?

Reading Michelle Obama’s book, ‘Becoming’ and the preface had such an inspiring concept that I stopped to share....

She says that asking a child what he or she will be when they grow up is the most useless question. “As if growing up is finite. As if at some point you become something and that’s the end”
And she goes on to elaborate different things she has been in her journey... a lawyer, a vice president at a hospital, a director, the first lady..... but also a bride, a stressed out mother, a daughter, a wife....
It got me thinking how we all have roles in life and we have jobs and even within one job we have to shift between different roles. We have phases in life... each with its own demands... challenges that require a different version of us... Incidences that change us in matter of minutes... growth that comes with time.... understanding that comes with experiences....
Life changes all the time and you change with it ... it is okay as well for our goals to change, aspirations to change, dreams to change... what you become is not the end but, the part of the whole process of becoming who you are....
She is right when she says it is useless to ask what one will be when they grow up. Because at least for me what I am today was nothing I had imagined as a child but, everything I want to be .....
Now getting back to read the rest of the book!
