Welcome 2017

If I could give a title to 2016 (on a personal level), I'd call it 'year of opportunity'.  On so many occasions, personally and professionally, I found myself trying something new and challenging myself to do more than what I believed I was capable of. Some things worked and some did not. The blog, for instance, kept going on despite my really busy and tiring work life. It was a surprise that I did not give up something I could have done very easily otherwise.

Here we are standing at the end of 2016 and waiting to begin a new year. The perfect time to introspect and plan. Here are some random introspection and planning….

Because of the choices and decisions I had to make this year, I spent countless quiet and reflective moments sitting in my balcony watching sunsets and sipping from my cup of tea to clear my mind and reach decisions. And while I was at it, at so many points, I saw my creator's perfect planning in my life. I felt a strong need to thank God, more than ever, for all the miracles, big or small, in form of blessings or in form of the setbacks we face. Setbacks that we do not understand at a certain point in time but in the larger scheme of things, they make absolute sense. For the unexpected opportunities that He sends our way and also provides us with the courage to deal with them. This realization is what led me to push myself out of my comfort zone. While there are numerous ordinary things in life that we need to be thankful for every day, the best among them is this very realization; of God's infinite wisdom, love and mercy.

For 2017, commit to challenging yourself to try something new. If it is a tiny, little step towards something you wanted to do…. take the plunge. Even if you fail - take that step because there is a probability, no matter how low, that you will not fail. Whatever the outcome, there will be a point in your life when you will see why it worked out the way it did. We often forget what we are capable of unless someone pushes us to prove it. Be that 'someone' in your own life. This is what 2016 started for me that I will take with me to 2017.

I came across these beautiful lines that perfectly sum up my resolution for the coming year.

"Let’s just anticipate that we (all of us) will disappoint ourselves somehow. Go ahead and let it happen. Let somebody else be a better mother than you for one afternoon. Let somebody else go to art school. Let somebody else have a happy marriage, while you foolishly pick the wrong guy. While you’re at it, take the wrong job. Move to the wrong city. Lose your temper in front of the boss, quit training for that marathon, wolf down a truckload of cupcakes the day after you start your diet. Blow it all catastrophically, in fact, and then start over with good cheer. This is what we all must learn to do, for this is how maps get charted — by taking wrong turns that lead to surprising passageways that open into spectacularly unexpected new worlds. So just march on. Future generations will thank you — trust me — for showing the way, for beating brave new footpaths out of wonky old mistakes.
Fall flat on your face if you must, but please, for the sake of us all, do not stop.
Map your own life."

I pray that while we successfully unlock all the new doors that we have chosen for ourselves, we stay ever grateful and thankful to God.

Wishing you all a happy, prosperous, wondrous

adventurous 2017 :)

  8. I can relate to what you say. I did things in 2016 that were quite unexpected of me, incl some that were outright crazy. I was in situations and I had oppurtunities that I never thought I'd be in, both good and bad. Universe or God, whatever you believe in, has its/His own plans for us!!! Wishing you all success in 2017 Mehwesh!
