Immigration Diary: Volunteer Work While Job Hunt

While you are job hunting, it is always a good idea to do some volunteer work. Though, it may not give you anything financially but, It will help you stay occupied and keep you away from brewing negative thoughts. A volunteer experience can be added to your CV and may have a good impact on the potential employer.

If the volunteer experience has no connection with the role you are applying for, you can add it in a separate section in your resume titled e.g. ‘Volunteer Experience’
If the experience is relevant to the job you are applying for, you can add it as the latest working experience mentioning clearly that it was a volunteer experience. You can then proceed to add your tasks and duties, creating a clear connection between your experience and role you have applied for. For some of the situated based questions in your interview, you can use examples from the experience as well.
Most of the recruitment portals do have volunteering section where you can state your interests and choose to do some work to gain experience and keep you occupied.
**This is a part of a series regarding my journey as a newcomer to Australia
